Commercial Carpets of America (“CCA”) now features BIOBALANCE™ polymers with soybean oil in all of its carpet with Everbond attached cushion as part of its GSA contract product offering. This was made available to GSA at no added cost through the efforts of Patcraft Commercial Carpet and Universal Textile Technologies. This revolutionary polyurethane polymer system from Dow Chemical incorporates soybean oil, a 100% renewable resource, as a replacement in a portion of the chemistry used in making polyurethane backings. Soybean oil is extracted from individual soybean pods in the laboratory and is used to develop the SoyOyl™ polyols, which are then formulated to create the BIOBALANCE™ polymer.
In its first job for a federal facility, CCA furnished some 6,000 yards of Patcraft carpet with the BIOBALANCE™ attached cushion. According to Ralph Grove, Manager of CCA’s Commercial Group, “The product was produced on schedule and installed without a problem….our client was delighted to learn this change [to BIOBALANCE™] was possible without increasing the government’s cost.” CCA continues to increase its offering of carpet and resilient products based on renewable resources and recycled content. CCA currently has three GSA Contracts featuring Patcraft and Designweave carpet, Forbo linoleum, and Nora rubber flooring and stair treads; all contracts offer optional installation. CCA’s niche is providing a package of high quality products and complete, certified installation.
